Tour du Défens

The steady ascent through the undergrowth on the ubac will be appreciated for its freshness. At the summit, the panoramic view of the village of Eourres and the crests of the mountain is a wonderful reward. The adret slope offers a marvellous balcony descent.

Description

Opposite the town hall, turn left, cross the bridge and then immediately left (Chemin de la Pinié). After 300 m, the road becomes a track and passes between 2 houses. Follow the track as it gradually climbs through the pine forest and around the Défens mountain.
At the first fork in the forest, follow the main track to the right. Do the same at the next junction before a small steep incline.
Continue along a large, hilly, fenced-in pasture on the left (horses). The track bends to the left, still following the fence, and comes to a fork.
Follow the track to the right (Le Défens) and continue uphill through an attractive beech forest. At the crossroads, climb to the right, skirting a forest cutting and reaching the crest of Le Défens (an area undergoing forestation).
Dive onto the adret slope, continuing along a pretty little path winding through oak undergrowth. The path winds its way down under the Défens mountain to reach the valley floor. Remain vigilant and follow the signs and cairns as you cross the broom and wild lavender heath, otherwise the path is easily lost.
At the bottom, cross a track and follow the path opposite. It quickly turns left to join the track 50 m further on, which you turn right onto to reach the few houses you can see.
Follow the road down to the junction with the D201. Take the footbridge opposite, then turn right immediately to return to Lachau along the left bank of the river. Continue along the road opposite, then turn right at the "Le Canal" sign to reach the starting point at the town hall.
