This circuit, accessible to all, allows you to discover the old town of Puy-Saint-Martin and its heights: you're guaranteed a great view.
Description
In front of the town hall, take rue du 19 mars 1962 (route de Manas); cross the D6 (Grande rue); go up rue du Bourg, then right into rue des Remparts. Turn left on Montée Portal, then right on Montée des Genêts and immediately left on Chemin du Belvédère. Pass the well (right), probably part of the former medieval château, then immediately take the path to the right.
At the intersection, turn left, then right at the next junction. Climb up to the cemetery wall.
Turn right onto the Chemin du Belvédère, which surrounds the ruins of a castle severely damaged in the 17th century during the wars of religion between Catholics and Protestants.
From the belvedere (orientation table), there's a 180° view over the Valdaine plain. Continue along the road, passing the cemetery on your right. Turn right on Montée des Genêts; at the next crossroads, turn left down Montée du Téron. At the bottom, turn right onto Chemin des Ours.
At the end of the latter, after the last house, turn right to ford the Charivari stream. Don't cross it, but turn right, then cross the stream a little further on. The hollowed-out path winds upwards.
At the crossroads, watch out for the junction and leave the main road to the left; the path winds along the cliff; fine views of the "cliff of the Bears".
At the top of the climb, rejoin the main path and turn left to the crossroads; take the 2nd path on the left. Continue straight ahead until you reach a large field; go around it to the left.
At the crossroads with circuits 5, 6 and 32 from Puy-Saint-Martin and circuits 19 and 70 from Roynac, turn left into the woods. At the intersection, turn left; do the same at the next 2 intersections; steep descent.
At the Charivari ford, turn right twice and start back towards Puy-Saint-Martin.
Leave Montée du Téron on your left; at the next intersection, turn left into Chemin du Moulin d'Aure. Go down Rue des Remparts and take the 2nd right, Rue du Bourg. Cross the D6 to reach the Mairie.
