On this walk, you'll discover the narrow streets and stones around the Château, as well as the village center with its shops.
Description
Starting from the car park, walk along the edge of the Garenne Park to the entrance to the castle, the Château. On the way, you pass the Jeu de Paume historic tennis court. Before the castle bridge, head towards the Espace Médicis. The first nail (emblem of Suze) is at the bottom of the sign.
Go down the flights of steps and head towards the village.
Pass the entrance of the Université du Vin, at the foot of the castle ramparts. Go through the two arcades, and follow the steps and the nails; go along the cobbled way and enjoy the panorama (from here you have a magnificent view of the village, the church and the distant mountain ranges).
Then, on the left, follow the small sign and the nails, then bear left again.
Go downhill, then take the narrow passage on the right called "L’Androuno". That takes you to the Grand’Rue in front of the listed monuments of the old church with its campanile or bell-tower and the Chapelle Saint-Sébastien. Turn left and pass the stone houses of the old town.
Looking upwards, you will see the imposing silhouette of the castle, and some old ramparts.
On a facade to the right you will a sign about Notre Dame de Bon Secours.
Just after this, take the small passage on the right and go down the steps.
Mind out, you will be stepping onto the county highway!
Cross over and walk up the Rue des Remparts.
After thirty yards or so, turn left, following the nails and the small sign. Go along the Chemin de la Fontaine d’Argent and pass the lavoir (the communal laundry or wash-house).
Go up the little street to the county highway. Pass the church and go over the road at the pedestrian crossing.
At that point there you have a choice. You can turn right, opting for "retour rapide" (straight back), or turn left for "retour par les commerces" (back via the shops).
Then follow the pavement, pass the Office de Tourisme reception, and turn right.
Go up the street to the Champ de Mars square.
At the pedestrian crossing, take the small set of steps on the right, then the passage between the establishments.
At the end, turn right.
Mind out for traffic!
Go over the pedestrian crossing to the left, pass the tall railings of the gateway (alternatively, if you like, you can go through there) and take the Rue de l’Escurailler.
Go straight along this narrow street, uphill, following the "Fin de Circuit" sign to return to the Château via the Espace Médicis.
