A great combination for a figure-of-eight tour on either side of the town to discover the must-see sites around Buis-les-Baronnies: Gorges d'Ubrieux, Col de Milmandre, Rocher de Saint-Julien...
Description
The first ascent is easy on a wide track, before finding beautiful single-track trails on the higher ground, followed by sections of road on the way back down. The second loop is more technical around Saint-Julien, particularly the descent to Serre Long, where you'll need to be nimble and attentive to move serenely between the rocks.
The sectors you're about to tackle pass through a Natura 2000 area, renowned for its remarkable biodiversity. You too can contribute to its preservation by adopting an eco-responsible attitude. Between Montagne des Plates and Rocher de Saint-Julien, this route takes you through typically Mediterranean environments. In fine weather, the heaths dotted with broom, boxwood and serviceberry are alive with the songs and movements of Crake Sparrows, Red-backed Shrikes, Subalpine Warblers and Woodlarks. From the cliffs, it's not uncommon for Golden Eagles and Peregrine Falcons to observe the situation, waiting for the right conditions to go hunting.
