Overlooking the widest part of the Roubion, the solid village of Saint-Gervais sits behind its fortified gates.
Description
At the center of the Valdaine plain, arriving from the north, you can admire its massive silhouette, rounded on a hill overlooking the wild course of the Roubion, closed in by fortified gates and dominated by an imposing castle, guardian of the Roubion passage. Passing under the Porte Saint-Claude or the Porte du Point-du-Jour, fortified gates in the ramparts, visitors enter the heart of the old town. All that's left to do is wander through the narrow streets, in search of the parapet walk and the little square where a centuries-old mulberry tree takes pride of place. But you can also enter via the village square, admiring an astonishing fountain well known to cyclists. Then head north, past the town hall, and on the right you'll see the façade of the château, the oldest part of which features huge 16th-century mullioned windows. Pushing on to the end of the square, you'll discover a wide panorama of the Marsanne plain from the top of the ramparts. 13 kilometers southeast of Montélimar, the village has 5 local shops (bakery, bar-restaurant, hairdresser, grocery store, organic vegetable store).
