Musée du Cartonnage et de l’Imprimerie

Created in 1991, this unique French departmental museum traces the history of cardboard box manufacturing and printing in Valréas, the capital of French cardboard, from its origins in the mid-19th century to the present day.

Description

Learn all about the making of the famous draught boxes, invented by Ferdinand Revoul for importing silkworm "seeds".
Boxes for perfumery, pharmaceuticals, jewelry and confectionery, as well as a reconstructed workshop, cardboard and printing machines, and graphic collections (lithographic labels, advertising posters and calendars, representative cards, company archives) will introduce you to an industry that achieved worldwide renown in the early 20th century, and is still going strong today. A 12-minute film completes the visit, and there's also a bookshop.
Most of the collections are from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
