La Coucourde

Made up of hamlets, La Coucourde offers marked trails to explore the ancient fortified village of Lachamp and the ruins of its Romanesque chapel (12th century). In the countryside, the sweet scent of lavender fields accompanies your walks.

Description

The commune stretches 4 km along the RN7, 10 km north of Montélimar. Traditionally a road and boat village, it takes its name from an old inn for truckers and bargemen called "la courge d'or", in Provençal "coucourde", making it the first village with a truly southern sounding name on the Route du Soleil. In fact, the commune of La Coucourde is made up of a series of small hamlets, which in addition to the main town, bear the charming names of Chainas, Derbières, Lapra, Lachamp and Les Roches.
