Les îles, lacs préservés

Remarkable lakes and unspoilt nature. Tranquillity is the order of the day, and it's striking to find yourself at the confluence of the real Rhône and the Rhône counter-channel, with no noise other than that of the surrounding flora and fauna.

Description

What Montiliens call l'île du Rhône (the Rhône island) lies between the Rhône counter-channel, built in the 1960s to enable river navigation, and the actual course of the Rhône.
This large strip of land is hardly used by anyone, except to create quarries.
Today, the quarries have been abandoned, leaving large lakes in their place.
Fauna and flora have been able to develop in complete tranquillity, to the delight of anglers and hunters, as well as hikers.
The area is truly renowned among connoisseurs.
The Association des îles is made up of L'ACCA de Châteauneuf du Rhône - L'AAPPMA la Gaule Montilienne - la Fédération Pêche 26 with partners: the Commune de Châteauneuf du Rhône, la CNR, les carriers DAG Drôme Ardèche who have a common project to manage the site, to preserve it, to restore the natural environment, to enhance it, to respect nature, to transmit the values carried by everyone, open to all, for all, with respect for each other and the environment.
A set of specifications has been drawn up in partnership with the Conservatoire Régional des Espaces Naturels Rhône Alpes.
Gaule Montilienne project: the "fishing" action phase is a project to restore and develop the fishing grounds of LOT E 16 of the Rhône public river domain.
For the 4 "northern" lakes:
A "carpodrome" lake for "no kill" carp fishing.
One lake for no-kill predator fishing.
Two lakes for family and discovery fishing.
A major project to clear and aerate this "impenetrable" environment is required to halt eutrophication and allow access. The study also looks at the possibility of connecting the lakes.
For the 6 "southern" lakes:
A "nature" fishery will be reserved for them, with the need to thin out border vegetation and combat invasive plants in order to limit eutrophication in these environments.
For the 3 communal lakes:
Installation of fishing posts to facilitate "leisure fishing" and protect the bordering vegetation.
As in the past, white fish (carp, tench, roach) and carnivorous fish (pike and pike-perch) will be stocked in December each year.
The Deux lacs wildlife reserve (RVS) was inaugurated by Aspas (an association for the protection of wild animals) in the presence of film director Jacques Perrin in 2016, as he is the patron of the Crest-based association's private reserves.
Some forty hectares of wetlands (the two lakes of Camuse and Grande Île) have been returned to wildlife. Hunting and fishing, forestry and farming, livestock farming, fires, garbage dumping, unleashed dogs and even picking are all forbidden in these areas. It's all about letting nature express itself without human restraint.
