On a nearby hill lie the melancholy ruins of the medieval village - fifty or so crumbled houses, a few vestiges of the feudal château, the Lombard-style bell tower of Saint-Lambert Church and some fine, dry stone vaulted cellars and sheep barns.
Description
At the top of the hill, you'll find the ruins of some 50 medieval houses, the remains of an ancient castle, the Lombard bell tower of Saint-Lambert church and some beautiful dry stone-vaulted cellars and sheepfolds... An orientation table gives a detailed view of all the surrounding peaks.
Down below, where inhabitants gradually moved to the plain in search of new land to cultivate in the last century, lies the new village with the Saint-Rambert-la-neuve church, with its triangular pediment like a Greek temple, the communal washhouse and vaulted passageways leading into the houses. Centuries-old plane trees line the squares, where it's a pleasure to stop.
