The charming village of Cléon d'Andran is the first in Drôme provençale, 15 km east of Montélimar. The built-up area has evolved in concentric circles.
Description
In the heart of the village, near the church, whose pointed bell tower forms an essential landmark on the plain, are the oldest houses. A special feature is the "elephant fountain", unique in the region.
To understand this, you need to see Cléon d'Andran from above. The aerial photo is convincing: the village has grown in concentric circles, like an onion. At the heart, near the church, whose pointed steeple forms an unmistakable landmark on the plain, are the oldest houses. The second circle, now a narrow street, was once a small canal. At the beginning of the 19th century, the outer ring was lined with a rampart that had become a circular boulevard. The houses in this last circle all had a small garden radiating out towards the plain, but over time, other constructions have taken their place (photo).
