After a steady climb up the Rif valley on a wide track to the Pas de Loup, the return via Béatrix requires sure-footedness. The return path is narrow and rocky, with a few aerial passages.
Description
It's a beautiful mountainside itinerary that takes you up high to enjoy the view of Rémuzat and the Rocher du Caire.
The sections you are about to walk through are part of a Natura 2000 zone, renowned for its remarkable biodiversity. You too can contribute to its preservation by adopting an eco-responsible attitude. The small Rif stream cuts through the rocky bar at Pas du Loup, then carves out a deep valley in the marl soil towards Rémuzat. The slopes above the road are covered by a pine forest. This is the habitat of Europe's largest forest bird, the Black Vulture. With a wingspan of over 2m80, it can build a nest weighing up to 500kg at the top of a tree. Particularly sensitive to disturbance and human activity, it chooses the most remote valleys to breed.
