Montagne de Buc depuis Barret

Pastoralism is also the guarantor of the diversity of landscapes we know today. Thank you for respecting this activity during your hikes.

Start: Barret-de-Lioure, alt.950 m, parking lot in front of the town hall.

1. Enter the village via rue de la Bourgade, turn left directly under the soustet ("Rue du calvaire"). With your back to the church, turn left, then right behind a house onto a small tarmac road. Take a slight left at the next junction.
You'll come to a courtyard next to a wash-house, and take the grassy path opposite. At the crossroads, turn right again to reach the D 542.

2. Take the road to the left for 800 m (be careful, busy road) to the crossroads "Le Riou, alt.800 m".

3. Leave the D 542 and take the small road on the right as you climb, which becomes a track after 550m. At the "Croix du Jas" crossroads,
continue uphill to the right. Stay on the main track for 2.3 km, passing the kennels at "Eyrolle". The trail will gradually evolve
and reach a crossroads.

4. Leave the path coming from the Col des Arles and continue straight on to reach a second junction: "Les Plaines, alt.1100 m".

5. From here, fork right at 90°, the path climbs the moor along a cultivated field to reach a crossroads. Take the stony steep path due east. You're entering a pastoral area, keep away from the herds. Continue in the same direction to the summit of "Montagne de Buc, alt.1142 m" marked by a geodesic marker. 360° view.

6. Descend due north for 700 m.

7. Turn right onto a track which descends to the right. At the 3rd bend, ignore the left-hand track and continue in the same direction. The route climbs and descends through undergrowth until it emerges into open country as you approach a sheepfold.

8. Continue straight on at the "Serrière de Piberos, alt.1179 m" crossroads, heading for Bergiès (mountain with domes at the summit) to reach the small pass (alt.1157 m).

9. Descend to the right; walk 300 m and look out for the start of a path to the right marked by a cairn on a grassy level.

10. Take this path, which runs along the side of the mountain with magnificent views of Buc mountain and the village of Barret-de-Lioure.

11. When you reach a track, follow it for a few mothers on the left, then take the path on the right that leads back to the start parking lot.
